Buffalo Niagara International Airport Fire Department
The Buffalo (NY) Airport Fire Department is a full-time, career department entrusted to protect the customers, employees, and visitors of the Buffalo Niagara International Airport (BNIA). We are responsible for fire protection and suppression for all aircraft, structures, and vehicles located on airport property, and also provide Emergency Medical Services to those in need. Our primary goal is the safety of the people we serve and we have the capabilities to perform a rescue or extrication as well, in the event a person cannot free themselves following a aircraft incident or motor vehicle accident .
The Buffalo Niagara International Airport Professional Fire Fighters continually train to provide the best service possible. All of our members are certified NYS Firefighters and many are also trained to the level of NY State EMT-D, AEMT-I,Paramedic. In addition to this, all members receive extensive annual training in Aircraft, Rescue and Firefighting techniques as required by the FAA (Part 139, CFR).
Occasionally, we may be requested to respond off the airport to a severe incident or extraordinary situation (gasoline tanker fires, off-airport aircraft incidents, large fuel spills, etc.) and will take steps to ensure the response does not compromise the level of protection provided at the airport.
Located just outside the city of Buffalo , NY, the BNIA has an average of 110 flights daily. In 2008, the total number of passengers using BNIA reached an all-time high of nearly 3 million passengers.
